1. What's the definition of ski travel insurance Off-Piste without a Guide cover?
Skiing / Snowboarding Off Piste (without a Guide): if you are off-piste within the ski area boundaries of a recognised Ski Resort that is patrolled, then it is not a requirement to be accompanied by a guide or instructor) and in areas that Local Resort Management considers safe.
2. Does standard winter sports cover me for Off-piste?
A standard winter sports policy would not cover you for Off-piste Skiing without a guide, and a winter sports policy would cover you for Skiing and Snowboarding on piste only.
Your policy must state Off-Piste without a Guide.
3. How many days can I ski off-piste on this policy?
We can cover Skiing Off-piste as the Sole Purpose of your trip up to 180 days on a single journey; there are no restrictions on the number of days you can ski for during this time.
Ideal for Ski Seasonaires or if you plan on spending a month or two in the resort.
4. Does the Search and Rescue include Helicopter Evacuation from the mountains?
Yes, if it is medically necessary to Evacuate from the Mountain, then the policy will cover you under the Search and Rescue Cover.
Once you have been taken to a local medical facility, you will be covered under the Emergency Medical Expenses.
5. How does this policy cover me medically if I have an off-piste accident?
If you have an off-piste accident and need Emergency medical attention, you will be covered under the Emergency Medical expenses up to £5m, including Repatriation back to the UK.

6. Do we cover skiing/boarding off-piste with a Guide, and is the premium lower?
Yes, we can cover off-piste skiing or boarding with a Guide; the premium tends to be lower as you will always be with a Professional guide/instructor.
7. Would this policy cover me if I am doing an Off-piste Avalanche Course?
Yes, this will cover you for participating in an Avalanche Safety Course and being in Off-piste terrain.
Please Note: This will not cover any pre-paid activity course fees if you have to cancel your trip.
8. Do I have Avalanche Safety Trained to take out the policy?
No, however, you should not be skiing off-piste without a guide if you do not know off-piste terrain and the unknown that comes with it.

No, this policy would not cover you for Ski Touring; if you plan to ski tour, please select this during the quote process. If you plan to do so, you must have Ski Touring stated on your policy.
10. What is the Age limit on this Off-piste Cover?

Although it's not mandatory to have been on an Avalanche safety course for your policy to be valid, it is the key to becoming an excellent off-piste skier or snowboarder. Taking an Avalanche Safety course can go a long way; please see several methods below:

General itinerary of an Avalanche Safety Course:
Classroom Theory Session - introducing the elements of the course and a brief understanding of avalanches, including types of snow and weather influences such as wind, ice and terrain.
Weather and Route Planning - go over the latest weather conditions and forecasts; from here, you can plan a route accordingly.
Equipment Briefing - explanation of using transceivers, shovels, probes and other avalanche safety gear. Instructors will demonstrate how group searches are carried out.
Practical Session - Knowledge gained in the theory stage will be implemented and developed in the mountains by Topographic map reading, risk management, decision-making and group organisation, and Digging techniques, giving you the best chance of a successful rescue in an emergency.
Classroom Debrief - a debrief and overview will take place to review what you have learnt in the theory and practical sides of the avalanche course.

Avalanche Safety Kit
Being out in off-piste terrain means you are in charge of your safety and your ski companions; this means Avalanche safety equipment is a must, starting with the basics such as an Avalanche Transceiver, Shovel and Probe.
