FAQs

1. Is having insurance to do a ski season in Switzerland compulsory?

No, it isn't, but it is strongly recommended that you do.

2. Can I get Insurance while I am there for the Season?

Yes, you can get two types of Swiss ski insurance in Switzerland:  SkiPass Assu and Snow Assist. However, These are limited to covering mountain rescue, lost ski pass, and loss of ski lessons if you get injured and cannot ski anymore. For more information, see below

3. Do JS  Policies cover off-piste skiing and snowboarding without a guide?

Yes, we can cover this; booking this before you leave the UK is best to be fully protected.

 4. What level of Ski equipment coverage is there on a Ski Season Insurance Policy for      Switzerland?

We can cover your equipment to 1500 pounds with a single article /pair  /set limit of 750 each. A pair is a pair of skis or a pair of ski boots. See Policy Wording on page 26.

5. Will my GHIC ( Global Health Insurance Card )  work in Switzerland?

You will get reduced healthcare costs if you have a GHIC; see more information here. You can apply for a GHIC here. This will help, but it's no substitute for proper travel insurance covering winter sports.

6. What sort of Gadget cover can you provide?

We have a policy that will cover your Gadgets for the whole season in Switzerland, including iPhones, Laptops, cameras, go Pros, Games Consoles, etc., up to 1500 pounds. Please enquire on support@jsinsurance.co.uk for more information.

7. If I already have Season Insurance for Switzerland but want to do activities not included in my Policy, can I get extra insurance through JS?

Yes, we have a provider that can do this if you want to go snowmobiling for a day or go heli-skiing; this is a Policy through another insurance provider, so please call us for a quote on 0800 043 0020 for insurance for activities when you are already away.

8. How do I get a work permit for a Season in Switzerland?

You must apply for an L permit; your employer can do this. If you intend to work as a ski instructor there, please see more information below.

9. Can I ski in France and Italy with Season Ski Insurance for Switzerland?

Yes, you can, as your area for insurance will be Europe. You can ski into Portes de Soleil in France or from Zermatt into Cervinia if you are doing a Season.

10. What is the cost of a Season Ski Pass for Switzerland?

This depends on where you go, but for the four valleys, including Verbier and Nendaz, it is 1249 Swiss Francs if you buy it before 30 September - that's £1120. This is an Annual Pass, which also allows you to ski for up to 50 days in other resorts.

Getting a work permit for Switzerland

It would be best to find a job, get the employer to apply on your behalf, and present these documents.

  • Passport

  • Police certificate  from the UK

  • Medical Certificate

  • Any work experience certificates you may have.

Ski Pass Assure

This is Swiss Insurance from Assua, which you can purchase online or at a Swiss Ski resort; it covers Medical expenses, mountain rescue, cancellation, and loss of luggage.

Snow Assist

Snow Assistance is another insurance for a season you can buy in Switzerland and is a bit cheaper than Ski Assure. The coverage is similar; it can be purchased in Switzerland at the resort, and you can buy it for the season for 99 Swiss Francs.
