Chalet host, ski rep, bar staff, chef, housekeeping — if you are working a winter season in a resort, you are covered for working every day and skiing every day. It is the same policy as our ski seasonaire insurance — this page is about the work side of it.

You are covered to work

Every policy on this site is a winter sports policy (activity Level 5), and that includes working in a resort. These are all covered as standard:

  • Chalet host and chalet staff
  • Bar staff and waiting staff
  • Chef and kitchen assistant
  • Housekeeping, chalet maid, cleaner and maintenance
  • Reception, retail and admin
  • Resort rep

There is nothing extra to buy for the job and nothing to declare about it.

And to ski

Your skiing is covered for the whole season, not just on days off, and there is no cap on the number of days you ski. On and off piste skiing, snowboarding and guided tours are included as standard, along with emergency medical and repatriation of £10,000,000 and mountain search and rescue up to £50,000.

For trip length, returning home mid-season and the rest of the season-specific terms, see ski seasonaire insurance.

Roles to check with us first

  • Ski instructing. A separate activity, not the same as chalet or bar work. See ski instructor insurance.
  • Transfer driving — driving guests between the airport and the resort, or skiers to the lifts. Call us before you buy; how this is treated depends on the vehicle and the licence, and we would rather tell you than have you assume.
  • Childcare and nannying, and ski technician workshop roles. Both sit outside the usual chalet and bar categories, so call us, and we will confirm before you travel.

Common questions

Does the policy cover me if I'm working as a ski chalet host?

Yes, as standard. There is no upgrade to buy and nothing to add.

Does the policy cover chalet host activities and skiing?

Both, on the same policy. You do not buy them separately.

Does my policy cover working as a seasonaire in a bar or hotel?

Yes. Bar work and restaurant work are both covered as standard.

Is chalet hosting covered by ski season insurance?

Yes. It is the same policy — see ski seasonaire insurance.

Is personal liability covered while I am working?

Your employer's cover is what responds to the work itself, so ask the chalet company what they hold before the season starts. Your own policy covers you for personal liability while you are skiing, subject to your cover level — Silver carries none, Gold and Platinum carry £2,000,000 per policy.

My role is not quite chalet work and not instructing — for example,e helping in the ski garden with young children. Am I covered?

Resort childcare, ski garden and nannying roles are covered.

If your role is not one of the ones listed above, call us and we will confirm it in a minute.

Still looking for a season?

Most operators recruit for the following winter from spring onwards, and the best resorts and roles go early.

Job boards

  • Ski Jobs — vacancies from a large number of seasonal employers, covering bar staff, chalet hosts, chefs, childcare, drivers, housekeeping, kitchen assistants, maintenance, reception, retail, ski technicians and waiting staff.
  • Best Ski Jobs — listings plus guides on what each role actually involves, including chalet host, chalet couple, chef and rep.

Operators recruiting direct

  • Skiworld — chalet hosts, housekeepers, maintenance and management.
  • Ski Famille — seasonal roles across the French Alps.
  • Family Ski Company — chalet hosts, childcare and resort support.
  • Ski Vertigo — chalet hosts in the Tarentaise valley.

Couples can usually apply together, with one cooking and one hosting — most operators prefer it, and those roles fill first.

Manual work with machinery above ground level is the one thing that sits outside the standard cover, and we can add it.
