Prepare before you go to Japan for a Season

  1. Learn some Japanese; this will make your Season much easier as English is not widely spoken, and unlike European ski resorts, there are not as many English speakers.

  2. Get a working holiday visa if you are under 30 years of age and are working there.

  3. Train hard before you go, as skiing and snowboarding in Japan is challenging.

  4. Buy your ski equipment before you go; it's not cheap to purchase once you get to Japan.

Japan Working Visa for a ski season

  1. You need to apply three months before you intend to go

  2. You can get a year-long work permit if you are between 18 and 30.

  3. Once you have a job offer, your employer must send you a COE ( Certificate of Eligibility ). This facilitates obtaining a VISA.

  4. Apply at the Japan Embassy or the Consulate  in Edinburgh

Ski Instructing Jobs in Japan

A popular job for a season is as a Ski Instructor; you need to purchase a different Policy, specifically Ski Instructor Insurance for the Season in Japan.

Be careful; getting Ski Season Insurance for Japan may preclude Ski Instructing.

With many more non-Japanese skiers and snowboarders spending weeks there, there is a requirement for English-speaking instructors.

Travel and Hospitality are the other other areas where you can work.

A good resource for working ski season in Japan is the Japan Association for Working Holiday Makers.

Japan has the best snow in the world.

A whole season skiing or snowboarding in Japan- many say it has the best snow in the world, the cold air that flows from Siberia and Northern China over the  Sea picking up moisture as it does, which then becomes snow as it reaches the mountains of Japan.

Furthermore, the mountains in Japan are volcanic and thus porous; once the snow sticks, it results in dry, fluffy snow that is ideal for skiing and snowboarding. Ja Pow, they call it !!
